Ya es la tercera vez que una mujer embarazada da a luz a un bebé sin malformaciones en Cataluña, España. No se han detectado lesiones neurológicas ni anomalías de cualquier otro tipo, aunque el equipo médico seguirá de cerca la evolución del recién nacido.
Cataluña es la región española más afectada por el virus de zika en embarazadas. Hay un total de 14 embarazadas con el virus, de las cuales solo tres han tenido suerte de tener un hijo sin malformaciones. En esta última semana ha habido dos embarazadas más con el virus.
El primer caso de bebés con malformaciones en España se dio el mes pasado, cuando un bebé nació con microcefalia. Su madre había viajado estando embarazada a Sudamérica, donde contrajo no solo zika, sino también dengue. A las 20 semanas de embarazo los médicos detectaron anomalías en el feto. Solo en Cataluña hay 69 casos de zika, 20 hombres y 49 mujeres, de las cuales 14 son las embarazadas mencionadas previamente.
El zika es transmitido por la picadura del mosquito Aedes aegypti, aunque también se puede transmitir por contacto sexual y de la forma más preocupante, de embarazadas a fetos. Es una enfermedad leve para personas sanas, con fiebres ligeras, sarpullidos, dolores articulares... como una gripe leve. El problema se da cuando la infectada es una madre embarazada, donde el virus ataca al feto, pudiendo causarle daños neuronales y las malformaciones de las que hemos hablado previamente.
Se recomienda a las embarazadas no acudir a las zonas afectadas por la epidemia (Caribe, norte de Sudamérica, África ecuatorial, Polinesia...) para evitar todas estas consecuencias. A pesar de ello, los casos siguen aumentando, por lo que a ciertas madres los consejos les entran por un oído y les salen por el otro.

Zika virus is transmitted by the sting of Aedes aegypti mosquito, although it can also be transmitted via sexual contact or (the most unwanted way) from the mother to her fetus. In healthy people it is considered a mild disease: headaches, mild fevers, rashes, joint pain... as a mild flu. The main problem occurs when the infected person is a pregnant woman, where the virus attacks the fetus, being able to cause him/her neuronal injuries and the aforementioned malformations.
It is not recommended for pregnant women to travel to the affected zones by the epidemic (Caribbean countries, north of South-America, equatorial Africa, Polynesia...) in order to avoid all the consequences told before. Nevertheless, more and more cases of pregnant women appear, this indicates that some women do not care very much about these advice.
